Immediate Release - 02/03/23

Jordan High School (JHS) is thrilled to announce Logan Burnside named to Yamaha Music Educators 40 Under Forty Class of 2023.

“We are so excited for Mr. Burnside to be recognized for his excellence. His passion for students and music is incredible. Our band program has grown by leaps and bounds under his guidance, not only in the number of participants but also in the complexity of music played. This award is well deserved.”

Mr. Burnside has been a Band Director with Jordan Public schools since 2012. He teaches band to students in grades 8 through 12, as well as extracurricular bands including Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, and Contemporary Ensemble. His innovative teaching style has brought programs such as the Jordan Band Academy and Music Theory Lunches to Jordan students. The Jordan Band Academy, in partnership with Jordan Middle School Band Director Tracy Cederstrom, is a peer-to-peer music lesson and mentorship program where high school band students volunteer to teach lessons to middle school band students. Music Theory Lunch is a weekly lunch for all students interested in discussing music theory-related topics that is hosted by Mr. Burnside and Choir Director Kathryn McKnight.

Yamaha launched the “40 Under 40” music education advocacy program in 2021 to recognize and celebrate outstanding young music educators. Selected educators showcase the following characteristics: action (offer innovation and imagination solutions in achieving plans and objectives), courage (propose and implement new or bold ideas), creativity (show innovation and imagination in achieving plans and objectives) and growth (establish, grow or improve music education in their schools and communities).

“These remarkable teachers share the joy and power of music-making with their students who range from transitional kindergarteners to college undergrads,” noted the Yamaha website. Each of the educators selected oversee music programs that are continually growing and improving.
