Helping students be safe, smart and responsible users of online technology is important to their well-being. We want to provide parents and guardians with resources and information to help during the Distance Learning process.
Google Classroom – Our Learning Environment
Google Classroom is a web-based learning environment that will be implemented this 2020-2021 school year grades K-12. Google Classroom facilitates instructor-learner communication, and it ensures easy feedback and smooth document sharing through the district’s Google Suite. When logged into Google Classroom, students can collaborate with their peers and teachers simultaneously for a robust virtual learning experience. Google Classroom offers a digital safe space for students to view class announcements, access posted course content, view posted assignments, and turn in completed work. Only authorized district users (students, teachers, and other designated staff members) can have access to a district Google Classroom site. PARENTS AND GUARDIANS CAN LEARN MORE HERE.
GENERAL Q & A

We have a limited number of free district T-Mobile hotspots for families with no internet access for their student(s) at their home. If you are in need, please submit a support ticket.
-
I'm interested in free or low-cost household internet service
Families who need free or low-cost household internet service can contact Comcast; Frontier Communications; or Jaguar Communications

How are students protected online when using their school issued devices?
While on campus, student Chromebooks (for grades K-12) will connect with the District's internet content filter. The District filter blocks inappropriate content and helps assure safe websites. When off campus the district will use a third party content filtering system, Securely, to insure that students have a safe and secure internet while using the Chromebooks anywhere. For the curent school year, parents will be able to create an account with Securely to access information on their child's browsing history. To learn more about your Securely access CLICK HERE.
ZOOM Q & A
-
What is ZOOM?
ZOOM is a video conferencing service that Jordan Public Schools is using to connect with students in the virtual classroom. In this time of Distance Learning, teachers and staff are using ZOOM to connect with students.
Teachers are using ZOOM to host “traditional” morning meetings, post office hours for student help, teach virtual lessons, etc. This tool is a virtual way for students and teachers to connect while out of the traditional classroom.
-
Do students need to create a ZOOM account?
- No. Students can simply click on the link their teacher(s) provide to join the meetings.
- The district is not creating student accounts at this time in order to mitigate the issues other districts are having with students setting up ZOOM conferences on their own with other students.
-
Is ZOOM stealing data from students?
No. The district has set up an education account with ZOOM, which features strict parameters about using account data. Moreover, since students are not setting up their own ZOOM account, data stealing is not an issue.
-
Is ZOOM safe for students?
- ZOOM has enabled numerous features that supports privacy making it a safe option for students and teachers.
- Teachers have control over their conference settings such as keeping links private and monitoring who is in the ZOOM session.
-
What controls are in place to keep students safe?
Teachers are utilizing the various ZOOM features that support privacy and safety. These features include:
- ZOOMBombing - This is when an outside person joins the conference. Teachers can control this by keeping links private, requiring a passcode, utilizing the virtual waiting room, and actively monitoring participants.
- Virtual Waiting Room - This feature allows teachers to authorize entrance into the ZOOM meeting. Students using the link will not immediately join the conference; instead, they will go to the waiting room, and the teacher will have to let them in the conference.
- Privacy Features - Teachers are in control of their conference settings. For example, teachers can turn off annotating, so students cannot write on the screen during the conference. Teachers can turn off microphones and video features as well.
-
Has the school district experienced an breaches in the ZOOM platform?
Jordan Public Schools has not experienced any ZOOM issues; however, we are actively monitoring ZOOM usage and offering continuous professional development for teachers and staff as ZOOM continuously releases new features.
