STUDENT ORIENTATION WEEK
MONDAY, AUGUST 31 – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4PURPOSE: Students and staff have been out of the physical classroom setting since March 18, 2020, and when they return to the classroom, the structures will have changed into a hybrid learning environment. Jordan Public Schools will bring students together on targeted days throughout the “Return to Learn: Orientation Week” to focus on returning to this new learning environment while transitioning students back to school.
FOCUS:
- Community building to target social and emotional needs
- Walking students through and easing them into the hybrid learning environment
- Supporting technology needs while building digital citizenship
- Providing students and staff time to prepare for this new type of learning.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Physical distancing and COVID-19 health and safety protocols will be followed at all times.
- JES lockers will be available. JMS and JHS lockers will not be available for student use at this time.
- Students will eat lunch in the hybrid lunch model, which means eating in classrooms (students are allowed to bring a lunch from home). For those students eating breakfast at school, this option will still be available.
- Students in grades K-6 will stay in their learning pods / classrooms.
- Students in grades 7-12 will move throughout the day in their learning cohorts A/B.
RETURN TO LEARN SCHEDULE:
WHO WILL DISTANCE LEARN DURING THIS WEEK?
Students who are not on-site will be provided a “Return to Learn” Distance Learning Activity to work on throughout orientation week.HOW WILL WE GET THE “RETURN TO LEARN” DISTANCE LEARNING ACTIVITY?
- Grades K-4: The activity will be mailed home to elementary families the week of August 24.
- Grades 5-12: Students will be emailed this activity and it will be sent home with device pickup on Tuesday, August 25.

What are the school hours for each building?
All school hours and breakfast information is listed on the homepage of each school website.
- Elementary School Student Hours: 8:15am to 2:25-2:45pm (with some bus students being dismissed earlier due to bussing capacity)
- Middle School Student Hours: 8:00am to 3:00pm
- High School Student Hours: 8:30am to 3:00pm

Will buses run as normal during “Return to Learn: Orientation Week” for students?
YES. For those that utilize busing, watch for your bus information card arriving at your homes. Due to several route adjustments because of social distancing capacity needs, your student’s bus number may be different this year. Watch for this potential change.

Will students need to “check in” or do attendance with their teacher(s) on their distance learning off-site day? (What if we do not have our device yet - for JES)
YES. Attendance will be taken daily during distance learning.
- Elementary School -- Families/students will work with classroom homeroom teachers and office assistants to report attendance via email or other electronic format.
- Middle School --A google form will be sent out daily to students to complete for attendance on the days that they are not physically present at Jordan Middle School.
- High School -- A google form will be sent out daily to students to complete for attendance on the days that they are not physically present at Jordan High School.

Will lunch/breakfast be available during “Return to Learn: Orientation Week” for students?
YES. Breakfast and lunch will be available for on-site students. Students can also bring a lunch from home.
- Off-site Distance Learning Meals: We will have meal pick-up options when students are doing distance learning for “Return to Learn: Orientation Week” Monday, August 31 - Friday, September 4.
- Unlike the spring when meals were free to ALL students through a federal waiver, we must now charge for meals this fall (unless you qualify for educational benefits).
- You will need to register for meal pickup (registration will be communicated the week of August 17)
- Any registered meals that are not picked up will still be charged to the students account.

For “Return to Learn: Orientation Week,” does each grade level only come on-site ONE time during this week?
YES. For “Return to Learn: Orientation Week,” each entire grade level, broken into their alpha designated cohorts while onsite (JMS and JHS), will have ONE designated day they spend at school on-site all day (except Kindergarten). All other days are distance learning.
- For example: Grade 11 will only be on-site, broken into their alpha cohorts, on Thursday, September 3 - all other days during “Return to Learn Week” grade 11 will be off-site doing distance learning.
- The exception is Kindergarten: Kindergarteners will be on-site for TWO days (Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2)

Will there still be Elementary “Back to School” Conferences and Kindergarten Conferences during this week as were previously scheduled?
YES. We will still have scheduled conferences either virtual or on-site. Families will choose which works best for them.

Tuesday, September 8:
- preK programming starts
- Grades K–6 starts on-site hybrid learning
- Grades 7-12: Group B (by last name alpha L-Z) on-site
- Grades 7-12: Group A (by last name alpha A-K) distance learning
Wednesday, September 9:
- Grades K–6 on-site hybrid learning
