Mrs. Beckman

English Teacher
Though my path toward becoming a teacher did not officially begin until the year 2007, my personal journey began much earlier. I am the product of a middle school teacher who dedicated over thirty years to the profession and inspired me from a young age to seek a career in the field of education from the time I could scribble made-up lessons onto the chalkboard in his classroom on Sunday mornings after church. These experiences paved the way to Winona State University, where I graduated with a degree in Communications Arts and Literature (5-12). I continued my own education after six years in the profession, graduating in the spring of 2019 with a Masters in Teaching and Learning from St. Mary's University, Minnesota.

Teaching was not my first career choice, but being an English major, it seemed like a good place to start. As my time in the classroom progressed, the connections that I was making with the students wouldn't allow me to leave. I really do love my job because it opens my eyes to all kinds of different talented an amazing people (students, as well as other teachers and staff). I enjoy every day as a new adventure where both the students an I are constantly learning from each other. There is never a dull moment!

Teaching is built on two passions: a passion for what you teach (i.e., your subject area), and a passion for whom you teach (i.e., your grade level). For me, teaching language arts to high school students is a perfect blend: I get to share my excitement for artful language, effective speaking, and moving writing with young people who are about to take the stage as America's next generation of leadership. It's incredibly humbling to open their eyes to the beauty of ideas in literature and language.

I enjoy working with high school students and preparing them for whatever they choose to do in their next steps of life after high school.
