Course Description
-
During this course, students will be introduced to the language and logic of Geometry. Topics of discussion will include points, lines, planes, angles, polygons, perimeter, area, and volume. Students will also explore triangles, congruence, similarity, and trigonometry. Students will explore writing formal proofs in geometry.
Geometry Proficiency Targets
-
As evidenced based on classroom assessments, the student is able to:
- Find the surface area and volume of pyramids, cones and spheres. (9.3.1.1)
- Apply the effect of scale factor on length, surface area, and volume. (9.3.2.1)
- Assess the reasonableness of a solution. (9.3.1.5)
- Write conditional statements as an "if..then" statement and its inverse, converse, and contrapositive. (9.3.2.2)
- Express proofs in a two-column form. (9.3.2.4)
- Know and apply properties of parallel and perpendicular lines, including properties of angles formed by a transversal. (9.3.3.1)
- Apply properties of angles, including corresponding, exterior, interior, vertical, complementary and supplementary angles. (9.3.3.2)
- Apply properties to all types of triangles. (9.3.3.3)
- Apply the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse to solve problems. (9.3.3.4)
- Apply properties of special right triangles (45-45-90 and 30-60-90). (9.3.3.5)
- Apply properties of congruent figures to solve problems. (9.3.3.6)
- Apply properties of similar figures to solve problems. (9.3.3.6)
- Use properties of polygons to define them, classify them, solve problems and logically justify results. (9.3.3.7)
- Apply properties of circles to solve problems. (9.3.3.8)
- Understand the properties of right triangle trigonometric ratios, using sine, cosine and tangent. (9.3.4.1)
- Apply trigonometric ratios to solve real world problems involving right triangles. (9.3.4.2)
- Apply the distance formula, midpoint formula and slope to solve problems. (9.3.4.4)
- Write the equation of a circle in standard form and graph it. (9.3.4.5)
- Apply transformations graphically and using coordinate points. (9.3.4.6)
- Use properties of geometry to solve problems involving algebra. (9.3.4.7)
