Testing Dates and Information

  • ACT TESTING AT JHS
    In April of every year, we offer the ACT to juniors for free. Students are not required to take the test. Registration for this test will be shared with students in school, information on how to register for national test dates can be found below. 

    • Reminder, the ACT test is not a requirement. Most technical schools and community colleges do NOT require the ACT test. Moreover, some 4-year schools also do not require the ACT. Look at the requirements for schools YOU are interested in attending to determine if you need to take the ACT test.

    PREPARING FOR THE ACT
    The information here is intended to help you do your best on the ACT to gain admission to colleges and universities. Included are helpful hints and test-taking strategies, as well as a complete practice ACT, with “retired” questions from earlier tests given on previous test dates at ACT test sites. Also featured are a practice writing test, a sample answer document, answer keys, and self-scoring instructions.

  • OVERVIEW OF CAREER PLANNING/COLLEGE PLACEMENT TESTS
    There are various tests that students can take throughout high school to help with career planning or college placement. Please follow the links below for more information.

    ACT Test (11th and 12th Grade)
    Any Junior thinking about attending a four year school or looking at PSEO should take the ACT. Most schools will accept either an ACT test score or an SAT test score. Traditionally most JHS students have taken the ACT. It is recommended to take college placement testing for the first time towards the end of your Junior year and to also take the writing portion the first time you take the test. Practice tests are available in the guidance office and HERE.

    SAT Test (11th and 12th Grade)
    The SAT is a college placement test that students can take. Most colleges will accept either an ACT or SAT score, but some schools may require the SAT or SAT Subject Tests. Traditionally most JHS students will take the ACT test.

    PSAT Test (11th Grade)
    The PSAT is given in the fall of a student's junior year. If a student scores high on this test it may qualify them to be a National Merit Scholar.

    ASVAB test (11th and 12th grade)
    This test is used by the military to help place soliders in a career path. This test is free and a great career exploration tool for any student.

    PreACT test (10th grade)
    The PreACT test is a practice test for the ACT. It also gives students career information.
