Course Description

  • Band 6 students continue learning and developing instrumental musical skills. Students will explore a variety of music genres and styles and perform at three concerts throughout the year. Students will be expected to practice on their own outside of school.

Standards Taught in Grade 6 Band

  • As evidenced based on classroom assessments, the student is able to:
    ● Analyze the use of melody, harmony, dynamics, tone color, texture, and form
    within our concert repertoire. (3.A.1.1)
    ● Read and notate music using standard notation, including: all notation learned
    in 5th grade, plus eighth rests, dotted quarter notes, dotted half notes, dotted
    eighth/sixteenth note combo, 3-4 time, 2-4 time. (3.A.1.1)
    ● Play alone and in a group, demonstrating proper posture, breathing, technique,
    age-appropriate tone quality and expressive intent. (3.A.1.1)
    ● Rehearse and perform a variety of contexts and styles of music alone and within
    small or large groups. (3.6.3.5.1)
    ● Perform in a formal concert setting using appropriate performance and
    audience etiquette. (3.6.3.5.1)
    ● Analyze, interpret and evaluate a variety of musical works or performances by
    applying self-selected criteria within the traditions of the art form. (3.6.4.8.1)
    ● Analyze, interpret and evaluate the personal, societal, cultural and historical
    contexts as they apply to music creation, performing and responding. (3.6.5.10.1)
