School Board voted to approve an upcoming bond referendum on April 11, 2023
Immediate Release 12/13/22
The Jordan Public Schools School Board voted to approve a bond referendum question that will appear on the ballot at a special election on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
The vote took place at the School Board meeting on Monday, December 12, 2022, as a result of the ongoing review of data collected from both the Strategic Planning work conducted last spring and the school community survey earlier this fall.
The upcoming referendum will be one question based on clear direction from the JPS community on facility priorities. The ask is for voters to approve $34,990,000 for all renovations and additions including:
-
The renovation of the 1970s section of Jordan Elementary School
-
Additions at Jordan Elementary School to include additional classrooms, new cafeteria/multipurpose space, a full gymnasium, enhanced secure entrance, expanded early learning spaces, windows, doors, restrooms, and more
-
Enhancing the secure entrance at Jordan High School
For more than two years, the School Board in partnership with the Jordan Public Schools Facilities Committee has been working to develop a facility plan to ensure our schools will meet the needs of our students, staff, families and a growing community.
Leading up to this referendum, the School Board was committed to bringing forward a plan that focused on critical top priorities for school district facility needs for safety and security, room for growth, and opportunities for our school community. The needs for improved safety and security of Jordan Public Schools buildings and more space within the elementary school are not going away. The areas of our buildings that will be impacted by this proposed funding for much-needed upgrades will allow for Jordan Public Schools to meet the needs of the community for years to come.
Please watch for more detailed information to be shared with the school community over the coming months leading up to the April 11, 2023, special election.
